Derek Cardigan revisited

The work of Canadian illustrator Derek Cardigan first captured my attention at the end of 2009 when I was taken with his delightful Save Luella illustration featuring ss09 girls taking afternoon tea: see the post here. And in the meantime he's been doing what he does best by creating even more amazing fashion illustrations.

His illustrations are first hand drawn and coloured on Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or Flash. He is inspired by beautiful fashion collections and indeed we can see this season's hottest looks featured in his work: elegant Louis Vuitton ladies anyone? In just one image he's perfectly captured the character of each girl, from 'Meow Meow' to 'Ms Dior'.

"I think all my life I have always just been into making things with my hands. My favourite book as a child was this craft book that taught you how to make paper mache, finger puppets, kites, etc. I also loved to draw. I used to draw everything from Wolverine, Ninja Turtles to Sleeping Beauty!

My interest in fashion started (I think subconsciously) when I first watched Sleeping Beauty. The part where princess Aurora is dancing in the clouds while her dress magically changed from pink to periwinkle blue made a definite impact on me. Since then I have never been able to escape the allure of a beautiful girl in a beautiful dress."

Last time I wrote 'Wouldn't they all make darling prints!' and now they are, as Derek has fulfilled his ambition of creating an Etsy shop to sell prints of his work!
