When I arrived home today to find my, much anticipated on my part, copy of Luella's Guide to English Style (from Amazon) I was delighted. These are some of my first thoughts/review on the book.
The main colour of the book isn't the most attractive thing in itself but the acid pink elastic provides the quirky Luella twist and the image of the fox wearing a bow fits in with the Luella brand perfectly. The faded edges give the book a feel of belonging on the shelves of an ancient country house.
I'm not overly taken with the illustrations by Zoe Taylor and Daniel Laidler on my first flick through, but I'm yet to see them all and their style is growing on me so I'll be having a better look in the future. Their casualness isn't the style of fashion illustration I normally go for, however it probably works a lot better with the feel of the book. There are also a lot of interesting photographs in the mid-later sections.
Overall a good first impression but it doesn't fill me with happiness the way Luella's ss09 collection does. Then again, I've got to be honest and say that I'm feeling too ill to be overly animated about anything right now and I've yet to read a single part of it. Luella Bartley's background is in fashion journalism and I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the text itself, and of course once I have I'll be letting you know what I think once more.
There's actually been quite a bit of confusion over deliveries of the books and I havent' heard of others arriving yet so I'll keep you all posted!

Oooh, hope you feel better soon. Would love to know your thoughts when you're ready, it looks like an interesting read.
Oh you have yours. I have been waiting patiently and can't wait to take a peek. A book could never make me feel the same way as clothes!
Oooo, sounds like such an interesting book. Definitely give it a read and let us know how it is.
I would really like to read this book! I don't really know what English style *is* although relatives sometimes tell me my outfit "looks so English" on certain days, so I would like to finally know what that means, haha! I have a feeling you might like it more once you can have a proper look; I'm often disappointed by things at first but then realise that they're actually quite nice.

I was planning on buying it on the 14th for my birthday shopping trip, but since that hasnt happened yet I havent got my book either! In Grazia they had a review and I was put off by the illustrations - reminds me of my GCSE work!
Hope you feel better soon xx
Looks like a fab book! I'm not really in to fashion at all but I do like Luella :)
get well soon and let us know more about the book... may be adding it to a future amazon order myself :)
not heard about this book. will have to check it out. like the cover, although we all know we shouldn't judge the book by that!. and have to agree about the illustration - not sure at all.
Thanks for the review - I am still undecided about whether to purchase this or not. When you are feeling better (soon I hope!) I would love an update on if you think it is a good read or not? xx
I have this book and love it! Easy to see how she was orginally a fashion journalist. I posted a review of it on my blog, I would to hear what you think.
