The J Model Management show

On Wednesday evening I headed out to a fashion event at Birmingham Council House organised by J Model Management which I had kindly been invited to and delighted to attend. 11 collections showed, all exciting in their own way, so I'll be sharing them with you over this and one more post.
Edward Finney
The show opened with the most magnificent dress reminiscent of decadent 50s couture; the epitome of elegant extravagance. The collection continued with an interesting juxtaposition of sheer, floaty fabrics and more hard structured silhouettes. It must be said that some of the more sheer ones would need more appropriate underwear to go out in than was seen as styled on the catwalk. Unless, of course, you're a fan of Lady Gaga style underwear bearing (more on her later) I'd say a slip was required. But I'm still a huge fan of the soft draping.

Cabinet
The collection excelled in chic evening dresses and LBDs with a little drama about them, all perfect for cocktail attire. The feather dress caught my eye and I would wear the lace one in a heartbeat.

Ara Jo:
These surreal garments have already been spotted by Lady Gaga who has worn Ara Jo designs. They're not for introverts and the third look was certainly not for anyone who cares to keep their modesty in tact! A little layering and it's one fabulous neck piece, but just shouldn't be worn on it's own. Then again it is the kind of extreme fashion that Gaga does best. There's something about the jumpsuit in that draws me to it despite it's strangeness; the way they've placed the sparkles perhaps. Definitely an avante garde collection.

Isabel Wong
An exhibition of how well structured and soft go when styled together. I felt that maybe look 12 (third picture from the end) was perhaps a little too stiff in contrast to the rest, but those gorgeous little floaty dresses are divine. I adore Look 6 as well, and it could be belted to give a very different feel. The colour palette was quite unobtrusive to allow the cut and shape to do the talking.

Huiqing Lin
I won't pretend to be an expert on menswear. However, to my mind the muted colour palette highlighted contrasting textures and fashion forward cuts and silhouettes.

Yifei Zhuang
Cool city chic sums it up quite nicely for me: understated with a touch of elegance. There are some really nice pieces that I would love to mix up with more colour, and yet there are people I know who I can imagine rocking these looks straight off the catwalk.

I had a really lovely evening seeing some beautiful clothes and I'll be showing you the reamining 5 collections soon, but I think this post is image heavy enough as it is!
