As a fashion student I'm always a little in awe of Pierre Garroudi's Haute Couture designs. They are so complex and thinking about the sheer amount of intricate work that must have gone into manipulating all that fabric makes the mind boggle. These exaggerated silhouettes aren't the most wearable things and are hardly for everyday occasions but I do like their theatricality and the amazing textures. The models are always styled pristinely from head- with those wonderful headpieces- to toe and an attention to detail shines through. The AW11 collection was in a lovely, rich purple colour palette. When used as such the colour cannot be separated from its history as one of the most expensive dyes reserved for the wealthy, aristocracy and royalty dating all the way back to Roman times. This history is juxtaposed with the playful presence of gingham, and my past blog posts show just how much I love that particular pattern! The collection was inspired by Elizabethan Royalty, which I think you can see in all that wonderful stacking.

I adore the textures in Garroudi's work, and the shapes. And this collection uses just the right shade of purple to emphasise their theatricality...fab!
