Entering the BFC Showspace at Somerset House I was already a fan of the amazing cuts at Aminaka Wilmont courtesy of designers Aminaka Löfvander and Marcus Wilmont. My anticipation was heightened upon finding orchids laid upon the front row before me. I was not disappointed by the slightly graphic but soft and subtle floral prints that soon came down the catwalk in tones of grey, black, white, lovely powder blue and hints of pale rose pink.
The SS12 collection is called 'Changeling' and inspired by Scandinavian folklore, making this collection a little away with the fairies but despite its etheral quality it is still very much wearable. As well as patches of floral prints the designs featured beautiful ornate butterflies. The chain necklaces were a gorgeous and slightly whimsical touch to compliment the clothes with colour pops from the butterflies inside the bottles, nodding to taxidermy for inspiration, a beautiful but harsh practice for collecting butterflies.
As well as soft shapes and beautifully flowing trains the collection also featured sharp tailoring and some historic armour inspired design features, which were intriguingly but brilliantly executed. I really like this juxtaposition of feminity and toughness. Elegance with attitude as it were and delicate decorative details contrasted with strong structures. Shall we call the models floral warriors?
