The Victoria and Abert Museum is one of my absolute favourite places to visit in London. There's always so much to explore and something to discover amongst the magical rooms. Therefore I was really excited to hear that they were planning an exhibition on lolita fashion, a Japanese street style I have myself been wearing for several months and have long been fascinated with.
My curiosity was only heightened by a fascinating panel of experts at Hyper Japan in February including the V&A's curator Rupert Faulkner who started his career at the V&A in 1984, working with Japanese prints, and seemed the most delightful chap. You can find an intriguing interview with him here on the Hyper Japan website by lovely lolita Pixie_late.
Kitty and the Bulldog opened yesterday on 23rd April and I'm really looking forward to visiting the V&A in just over a week's time. The free display can be found in room 45 in the Japanese Galleries and is named after much loved Hello Kitty with her signature kawaii cute style paired with the British Bulldog Attitude.
As part of the British Design Season the display looks partly at how the Japanese style has incorporated very British influences including Alice in Wonderland, Glam Rock, the New Romantics, Gothic, Punk and Vivienne Westwood. I'm really excited that lolita style is being showcased in such a prestigious and wonderful venue.
The display will remain open until January 2013 and the museum is open daily 10:00 – 17:45 and until 22:00 every Friday.

Yup! Cool, I think I am going as long as I don't have work. I'll come up to you and say hey if I see you :) x
Oh I hope you can come, it would be such a shame if not! That would be lovely :) There are going to be so many lolitas! I'm looking forward to taking my camera and capturing the spectacle!

It's been a long time since I wore lolita myself, but I can remember the LJ scene back in 2006... so much blackxwhite and bad lace! I'm amazed that it's got so big the V&A's exhibiting, I wish I could've gone to the meetup.
