On the SS12 catwalks at London Fashion Week I was delighted to see a incredible knack for manipulating fabric in À La Disposition's collection Mechanical Failure. I was certainly intrigued to visit the work of Daniel Kinne and Lynda Cohen again this February for AW12, especially with a lusciously gothic invitation asking me to a solemn viewing at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. The exquisite surroundings of the Freemasons Hall certainly made the perfect setting for this aristocratic collection.
With a futuristic vision, these garments have a noble elegance to them and a Victorian dandy influence. Proportions are played with in a theatrically exaggerated manner including sleeves hanging all the way to the floor, strong shoulder details and structural emphasis on the hips. This extravagance was exemplified in the fine jaunty top hats.
The overall colour impression was sombre grey emphasising the solemn feel of the collection, though actually comprising of a whole host of complex patterns in black and white. I also appreciated the presence of regal purple and rich, beautiful blue.
The design duo's fine attention to sculptural form goes from strength to strength. They really do have the most wonderful way with fabric and within so many different textures which contrast but work well together. This collection is excessively striking in its dark romance and I'm really impressed with its over the top nature and brilliantly topped off with marvellous millinery.
