At London Fashion Week the Prose AW12 collection fabulously showcased designer Miriam Lehle's love of texture. Lehle's work often starts with inspiration from materials and this one was no exception as it all started with an intriguing blue curtain.
From this point the curtain was destroyed and cut into pieces alongside tough woven shoe leather to create something new and beautiful in this wonderfully tactile collection.
In contrast to cool stone washed denim and navy sat wonderful Autumnal tones from yellow crisp as shed leaves to shimmering orange velvet, creating a gorgeous colour palette for Autumn/Winter. The beautifully rich prints felt at one with nature in the woodlands, as did the elaborately shredded pieces for a softly feathered effect. The layering too suggests the structural skeletons of natural forms.
Throughout the garments is a great attention to detail in the decorative textures. At another point in the week it was lovely to visit the Vauxhall Fashion Scout exhibition space to appreciate the exquisite workmanship close up.
One of Lehle's other loves is music and where the fringing was hung tangled around a model's neck it reminded me very much of a broken cassette tape. I feel Lehle's passion for music also comes across the aestethic of the collection, full of playful creative attitude. Despite her fragility the woman of the collection commands attention, able to play up both the feminine and the androgynous elements of her style- a strong power indeed.
