I love the magical moments at London Fashion Week when the collection is presented so perfectly you get completely swept away in it. Liz Black's presentation was definitely an AW13 highlight for me, transporting the press at the end of a long and weary day down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland.
Delving into the wonders of Alice's adventures, Liz Black took her fabrics in unexpected directions and offered a strikingly different take on Lewis Carroll's classic tale. The presentation itself was enchanting with the naive young Alice, clad in white with watch in hand, being whisked away to the wonders of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, where the resident eccentric was thoroughly enjoying the occasion. Curiouser and curiouser, the majestic Queen of Hearts made her powerful entrance, luring the audience under her spell.
For Autumn/Winter Black made use of bold monochromatic and red tones, with block colours emphasising the bold lines, strikingly shaped panels and spectacularly sculptural qualities of the clothing. The collection was much about drawing the eye to the collar bones and shoulders, from an alluring off-shoulder neckline to the Queen's amazing rounded heart-like shape and Alice's other-worldly white frock.
I really loved this fascinating take on Wonderland, and how beautifully the characters translated into the presentation. Luxurious fabrics and elegant cuts create gorgeously wearable pieces, but there's a fantastical creativity which makes the collection really special and a delight to behold.
