Despite my fascination with portraiture, it somehow avoided featuring much in my first year of Photography. In my 'High rise' exam project I managed to sneek in a few snaps inspired by The Sartorialist and Face Hunter featuring stylish people in city scenes, but that was it.
I entered my second year all the more determined to learn about portrait photography! The artists I have researched in my project are painters Antoine Watteau and John Singer Sargent and photographers Edward Steichen and Cecil Beaton.
Yesterday marked my first studio photoshoot! Which is rather exciting, but also intimidating because of the scary equipment. Both Steichen and Beaton worked in the first half of the 20th century and I wanted to style my best friend Emma to have that vintage feel. She bought the tea dress on one of our trips to Manchester from the vintage shop Cow and I asked her to wear it and twist her hair round in a vintage updo. Then I did her make up with brown eyeshadow, a slick of eyeliner, soft pink blusher and a dark red lipstick.
How do you think I did? The shoot was lots of fun so I'm hoping to get in lots more in this project!

The photos look wonderful! I love Emma's retro dress and hairdo. The red lipstick is the perfect finishing touch.
Love these photos, the make up is perfect! I want this dress! I'm just going to hunt everywhere now for one similar lol.
