Edgy body con cuts and explosive pops of shape and colour make up ZA by Zerrin Akinci's SS12 collection. This was the second collection to show at the LGN Events emerging designers showcase at Browns Courtrooms one evening at London Fashion Week. The Cyprus based designer's pieces are all very modern, and her strength seems to be in chic and wearable but fun dresses. Her work has both elegance and vibrancy for a fresh feel.
Akinci's garments are mainly asymmetric in cut and detail and many showcase peek-a-boo cut-outs. Now I'm not normally a huge fan of cut out details, but in this collection they just feel like part of the garment rather than putting them in for the sake of it. Unusual spiky shapes add a touch of pizazz.
The model wearing the closing look walked out with a paint pot in her hand and when the designer herself joined her she came equipped with a paint brush to place her signature on a panel of the dress. A literal presentation of what she does in all her figure-hugging dresses: she starts with a well cut base and adds joyful character.

I love the colours and bold shapes of this collection. especially the orange!
The shapes are fantastic aren't they? I totally see what you mean about the cut outs being an element of the design itself, rather than an finishing thought.
