As a huge fan of both 1950s style and swing music I was really excited to be given the option of reviewing something from Dolly Mixture Clothing where I spied this gorgeous polka dot Swing Skirt and thought I'd give it a whirl.
As I descended downstairs in my skirt this morning my lovely mum asked "Have you got an extra petticoat on under there?" The beauty of this skirt is not only in the full circle cut which flares out marvellously, but also in the tulle beneath. The petticoat layer is sewn in cleverly as a lining would be before falling into voluminous gathers at the bottom. I decided to turn the skirt inside out for the final photo so you can see. The nicely finished edge hanging below the polka dots is also is a really interesting, and I think lovely, take on the classic swing skirt.
There's no scrimping of fabric and this skirt really has the ultimate twirl factor making it great fun. I really want to go full out on fifties styling and head to a diner in this skirt, but today I decided to play with the femininity of it juxtaposed with my tie print t-shirt. Unusually for me I kept to a simple colour palette of black, white, red and blue. I like to think this is very Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl Season One, though I don't think I'll ever be as pristinely put together as her as I like mixing up prints far too much.
I'm so pleased with this skirt. It really hasn't let me down in the flesh from how lovely it looks on the website. The quality's wonderful and I think the skirt will prove highly versatile to add a little fabulousness to an otherwise dressesd down day or else be dressed up with a smart top and heels for dinner. It can also be found in a shorter length and the swing cut on some rather beautiful dresses.  Dolly Mixture have a host of pretty things from kawaii sweet jewellery to statement footwear so I highly recommend clicking over for a vintage inspired fix.

All my favourite things—polka dots, flouncy skirts, navy, red, and cloche hats—in one. Love it!
