With a strong, energetic beat in the soundtrack the Leutton Postle London Fashion Week show was a gorgeously vibrant affair, each catwalk look having many wonderful facets to behold. Former Merit Award winners, ever bold and brash design duo Sam Leutton and Jenny Postle have created an amazingly fun collection layered with statement-making pieces. Sleek silhouettes contrast with oversized and snuggly but sweepingly powerful coats.
There's a strong emphasis on knitwear in the collection, playing with classic shapes by the use of innovative techniques. Throughout a creative collage effect is strongly present, though manifesting itself in different incarnations from reverse appliques to patchwork knitwear.
Raw feeling natural tones and wools contrast with shimmering pastel metallics and deeply rich hues. Leutton and Postle make fantastic use of complimentary colours in pairings of orange and blue then red and green, and also contrasting cool and warm tones. From tactile tassels and tinsel to bobbled pom pom surfaces I want to reach out and touch it all!
As a child I always used to take delight in finding faces within forms and I can do likewise here over and over in the collection! The abstract facial features remind me of Pablo Picasso's fantastical Cubist paintings. Cleverly illustrated knitted faces sometimes feature vivacious three dimensional details such as locks of hair; the textures at work in these clothes are such a delight.
Leutton Postle's exuberant AW12 collection really is a joy. I love the mix of heritage and modern innovation in their work and I'm excited to discover what new collections we'll be seeing from them in future. Leutton Postle AW12 London Fashion Week Vauxhall Fashion Scout Leutton Postle AW12 London Fashion Week Vauxhall Fashion Scout

It's all very pretty except for the creepy knitted mask on the last model!

I agree! The masks and faces are kinda creepy...
But the artists are very interesting nonetheless.
