In the last few months I've rediscovered my love of My Little Pony, though in fact it never truly left me. I'm a hoarder at heart and have stubbornly clung on to most of my childhood toys. Whilst I might not play with them as such anymore I never stopped thinking how cute they all are! Then over the last few years I haven't been able to resist buying the odd adorable pony when I've discovered them on my adventures in search of Hello Kitty. What both Hello Kitty and My Little Pony have in common is that they're pretty and make me smile!
Towards the end of August I was very happy to come across the UK PonyCon, which I think was actually ran this weekend for the tenth time! Soon I was looking up train journeys to Long Eaton and merrily organising a little lolita meet up to go to the 'mane' day on the Saturday.
The UK PonyCon is a lovely opportunity for people who like My Little Pony to get together and some people even flew in from abroad! I was so impressed with how the PonyCon was organised by the wonderful committee, filled with wonderful things throughout the day.
Firstly there were row upon row of stores of tempting treats from the Generation One ponies of my childhood right up to the latest Generation Four characters, and with all kinds of paraphernalia from rollerskates to beach blankets and supplies to create pony customisations. Speaking of customisations, so much hard work had been put into all the contests of the day from customising a teeny tiny little blind bag pony to the art contest, creating such incredible entries.
Then there were all kinds of activities from the cosplay masquerade to intriguing panels with the likes of Erica Pitt who is an animator on the Friendship is Magic cartoon and crazy game challenges such as Build a Pony (around a teammate using pieces of cardboard) and Don’t do what Daring Do Doesn’t Do.
I had a very lovely day filled with fun and it couldn't really have been much cuter! The event also raised an amazing amount of money for the Riding for the Disabled Association. The UK PonyCon changes venues each time, which I think is a nice idea so that if you can't come one time hopefully another will suit you better. I've got my fingers crossed I'll be able to attend once more next year so I can share in the excitement all over again.
